Eggstravaganza

In April, 1909, the ladies of St. Alban's Episcopal Church hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of Kingtree at Thorn's Mill, located on the river at the end of what we know today as Mill Street, which was named for that mill. One hundred and ten years later, Main Street, Kingstree, hosted an Easter Eggstravaganza on Main and Academy streets. Egg hunts at both the Courthouse and the Depot, games on Academy Street, Facepainting, Hula Hoops, Bubbles–all were enjoyed by a throng of young people and young-at-heart adults.

Set up began early with volunteers hiding Easter eggs, setting up tables and chairs and games and loading and moving the mobile mural from the depot to Academy Street.

This Red-Spotted Purple butterfly took a fancy to the chair brought to Welch Park for the Easter Bunny. Even after the Easter Bunny arrived, and photographer Cheyenne Monteith began taking children's pictures with him, the butterfly kept circling the chair.

All ages had fun engaging in playing games and hunting eggs. The mobile mural which is slated to hang in the spot on Academy Street where it was leaning reminded everyone that "We Believe in Kingstree."
